Sydney Martin Lecture, “Power and Abuse: A Theo-Ethical Analysis.”

22 June @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm BST

Join us on June 22nd at 19.30 for the Sydney Martin Lecture. This year we’ll be joined by Dr Selina Stone, who will be leading her lecture:

“Power and Abuse: A Theo-Ethical Analysis.”
The problem of power and its abuse has preoccupied Christian theologians and ethicists for centuries, yet remains an ongoing problem in our contemporary institutions and societies. The weaponizing of theology is a consistent factor in abuses of power today and historically. How might womanist theological ethics, which centres the experiences of black women, shed light on the problem of power abuse and of theology in particular? This paper looks to Mary Prince and womanist ethics to examine the problem of power and the possibilities of being, beyond abuse.
