Elevate

A new initiative to widen participation and lift up young leaders in partnership with their church.

Recent reports have shown that church attendance is down 32% from pre-pandemic numbers, and 24% of churches have not restarted youth groups since restrictions lifted. This comes at a time when an array of challenges in society (from climate change to the widening gap between rich and poor) means that the church is called to be more active in the world than ever before.

In Mathew 9:37-38, when Jesus recognises the same need around him, he calls for a sending out of workers into the harvest field. Acknowledging the challenges and opportunities that the global church faces, Elevate is NTC’s response to that call. We want to elevate young people to find their path and purpose in Christ, through theological education and serving their local church. We want to elevate the church, through providing partnership and resources to invest in future leaders. Ultimately, we want to elevate the kingdom of God here on Earth and change our shared world for the better.

Becoming an Elevate Partner Church

NTC has been based in Didsbury, south Manchester, for almost 60 years. In that time, we’ve nurtured a learning community with one aim: to prepare our students for innovative Christian ministry. We’re inviting churches to partner with us to support their young people (aged 18-25) in their theological education, at certificate or BA level.

  • The Elevate Certificate Bursary gives students £2000 to support their living costs across a one year programme, and is available for online or in-person study.
  • The Elevate BA Bursary gives students £2000 to support their living costs each year across a three year programme, and is available for in-person study at NTC.

£1000 will be contributed by the church per student, per year of study, matched by NTC. In return, the student will commit to a full day of volunteering at their home church. In addition to our outstanding pastoral and academic support, NTC will offer each Elevate student a mentor to provide tailored support to allow them to thrive. Elevate students gain a University of Manchester accredited qualification, practical experience and are equipped to serve the church well.
