Giving glory to God for what He is doing through his Church

In September 2018, as part of my placement, I started a pioneer chaplaincy role in a primary school in Wigan. I felt called to start a prayer group – via Chatterbox – and teach young people to pray. Teachers and pupils took to this idea with enthusiasm and now there are prayer stations throughout each classroom and in the corridors.

I then invited members of the local church to get involved in the prayer group and to organise a prayer event, provide a listening ear and organise weekly assemblies. Since the local church has been involved there has been an increase in numbers at their family service.

I am humbled and blown away at seeing the impact of partnering with God in all that He is doing.

Last week, I was asked to accompany the prayer group for a walk around the school with the Diocese Education Adviser. He commented that he’d seen prayer spaces in schools before, but they were usually pristine, with pupils not able to articulate how they were used. In this school, it was obvious this was a praying school, and he stated that he was recommending the school as a signpost for other schools in the Liverpool Diocese for its good practice as a church school. He also recommended that the school should go for the Excellence grade to highlight the benefits of having a Chaplain.

I am humbled and blown away at seeing the impact of partnering with God in all that He is doing.
