Happy Birthday Revd Dr Herbert McGonigle, NTC Principal 1986 – 2004

Congratulations to the Revd Dr Herbert McGonigle, who celebrates his 80th birthday today.

Dr McGonigle joined the NTC faculty in 1976, and served as Principal from 1986 – 2004 before becoming the founding director of the Manchester Wesley Research Center.   It was 1957 when he arrived at Hurlet Nazarene College as an eighteen year old, having been influenced by the ministry of Revd J B Maclagan who came to preach near his home town of Enniskillen, and he returned to the College after serving as a minister in Walthamstow, in Uddingston, and in Leeds.

Despite suffering a stroke some ten years ago, Dr McGonigle is still active: he rises at six o’clock each morning, and works through until noon on his writing projects (he has had some 40 books and pamphlets published). He regularly worships in Brooklands, Manchester, and still drops in to the College for morning coffee from time to time. The photos above (with Dr Thomas A Noble, and Dr Peter Rae) were taken this week, in his home, as they took congratulatory messages to him from his many friends at College.
