Intro to Biblical Studies

Want to understand the Bible better? Intro to Biblical Studies explores the origins, interpretations, and approaches to the Scriptures.

This course is designed to introduce the beginner student to the world of academic biblical studies by engaging with questions of the origins of texts, the formation of the canon, the practice of exegesis and biblical interpretation, and discussing the validity of a range of approaches to biblical studies from ancient to contemporary.

Course lecturer Jon Darby

Jon is currently working towards his PhD studying the area of scribes in Second Temple Judaism, focusing on the Dead Sea Scrolls. Jon completed his MA in Theology which included Advanced Hebrew and Greek Texts, Contextualising Scripture, an independent study on ‘Romans 13 and Non-Retaliatory Love’, with a dissertation on elders and church order in the New Testament. Jon has worked as a musician and continues to write and produce music.
