Psalms and Wisdom

Undergraduate short course

Join us as we explore the many ways in which the Hebrew Wisdom tradition attempts to address the problems of everyday life and of divine justice. We will also discover and delve into Hebrew poetry, especially in the book of Psalms.

Dates: Tuesday, June 1 to Friday June 4 (3 sessions per day)

  • Session 1: 9:15am to 11am
  • Session 2: 11:20am to 1pm
  • Session 3: 1:45pm to 3:25pm (no afternoon session on the final day – Friday)

Course Code: OT5203

Lecturer: Samuel Hildebrandt BA, MA, PhD (Edinburgh) Lecturer in Biblical Studies (Old Testament)

“A significant part of my journey of learning and teaching has been my involvement in church communities in Germany, Canada, and the UK. Because of this, I am passionate about ‘unlearning’ that strange instinct of viewing intellectual and spiritual formation as separate categories. This intersection is foundational for what happens in my classroom and is relevant especially in the world of the Old Testament which deserves our best academic work yet also demands our personal involvement and imagination.”
