Starting university can be a challenging and anxious time. You may have received and accepted your offer, and now, the waiting begins…
During this in-between, or liminal, space, it’s completely natural to wonder:
“Can I really study after so many years away from education?”
“Am I truly ready to begin university after finishing school or college?”
Perhaps the thought of essay deadlines, hours of reading and research, or unfamiliar academic expectations is overwhelming. You may be experiencing imposter syndrome or even questioning whether you’ve chosen the right programme (or even the right place) to continue your studies.
At NTC, we understand that starting something new can be daunting, especially something as big as studying in a Higher Education environment, which is why we’ve grown a faith-based academic community that prioritises support and personal and spiritual development alongside your academic studies. Our small class sizes mean you are never just a number, and our dedicated and kind staff are committed to helping each student thrive both academically and personally. Whether you’re looking for academic guidance, wellbeing support, or simply a friendly face, NTC offers a welcoming environment where you’ll be seen, heard, and encouraged every step of the way.
Please be assured that you are not alone, and we are here to support you. We offer a wide range of services and resources to help you settle in and begin your academic journey with confidence and care.
Support Before You Become a Student

If your offer is conditional, you might be wondering what it will take to meet those conditions. Cameron Preece, our Admissions Coordinator, is always happy to offer advice and guidance as you prepare to join our faithful learning community.
If you require a UK Student Visa, Kirsty Burke, one of our wonderful registrars, is here to help you understand the process and make sure you have everything you need to arrive smoothly and legally.
Academic Support That Allows You to Grow

Whether you’re beginning undergraduate or postgraduate studies, you’ll have access to study skills classes, provided by our lovely Learning Enhancement Team‘s Coordinator, Joe Boston, and our Librarian, Robert Card. These sessions are designed to give you the tools you need to thrive, from essay writing to critical reading and research skills, at a steady, manageable pace.
Our faculty members are approachable and ready to answer your questions, provide feedback, and offer support with your coursework. Behind the scenes, our dedicated Academic Office Team, led by our Registrars, is here to guide you through the academic structures that support your progress.
Spiritual and Emotional Wellbeing

If you’re worried about maintaining your faith during university (a common concern among theology students) or exploring a call to ministry, or even if you’re struggling with your mental or emotional wellbeing, our Chaplaincy Team is here for you. They offer support through conversation, prayer, and simply being present to listen. We have two wonderful Chaplains, Revd James Hunter and Revd Louise Kenyon, who have experience in Christian ministry of different kinds, who have studied theology themselves, and who deeply care for you, mind, body, and soul.
And if you’re living on-campus, you may be wondering who will be there for you day-to-day. Debbie Kane, our Resident Warden and Operations Coordinator, provides warm and reliable pastoral support to our resident students. She’s a consistent, caring presence in our community, and an all-round lovely person!
A Place to Belong: Life in Community

You might also be wondering: “Will I be able to make friends?”
At NTC, we deeply believe in the importance of community for your wellbeing, spiritually, emotionally, and academically. From the very beginning of creation, God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18a, NRSV), and the wisdom literature of scripture is full of encouragement about the blessings of friendship and companionship (Eccl. 4:9–12; Prov. 17:17; 18:24; 27:9).
We want to create a safe, welcoming environment where you can form lasting, meaningful friendships with people from different countries, denominations, ages, and walks of life. We take time each week to pray together, worship together, have coffee together, and each conversation in and outside of class brings you together. Community is part of our DNA as people and as a college.
Your first experience of being a student at NTC, our Orientation Week, is designed to cultivate connection too! It’s not just about introducing you to classes and campus life, but creating a space where you can grow, flourish, and find your place within a vibrant academic and spiritual community.
