Community & Chaplaincy

Welcome to Chaplaincy at Nazarene Theological College, where we come together in community to witness God at work and commit to nurturing spiritual growth.

One of the special things about NTC is the opportunity for formation. The moment you begin studying you join a community rooted in faith – where relationship with God plays a significant part in your studies and story. Throughout each week, there are moments to step outside academic life and join together with a focus on worship, reflection and support.

The NTC Chaplaincy Team is here to walk alongside you on your academic and spiritual journey. We’re available to all students and love meeting with people, whether it’s for prayer, support, or a chat. You’ll see our Chaplaincy Team around campus, and we have a designated team member available to online students too.

Community prayer

Morning Prayers -Mon-Wed 8:45am-9:00, Chapel: A daily rhythm of prayer to start the day
Community prayer times: A term-by-term rhythm of gathered prayer at various times through the year

Prayer is a sacred rhythm that helps ground our academic pursuits and communal fellowship in the daily work of the Spirit. Together, we support each other through prayer and participate in how God is moving in the world. A range of people from our NTC community plan and lead our times of prayer, and everyone is welcome.

Coffee

11:00am – 11:20am – Café

A core value at NTC is relationships: loving God passionately, one another authentically, and the world sacrificially.

The morning coffee break is one of the many ways we intentionally spend time together. It’s a daily moment when we pause our work so that faculty, staff, and students can gather over a cup of tea or coffee (or another beverage of your choice!) and engage in meaningful connection in our campus Café.

Chapel

NTC is not just an academic community; it is a faith community, and a central part of NTC life is embedded in worship. This is why we have placed our Chapel services at the centre of our weekly rhythm.

Chapel services follow specific themes through the year and are shaped by our staff, faculty, and students. Our term-time services vary in style and are influenced by a range of Christian traditions. This is reflected through music, prayer, meals, creative activities, Holy Communion, and the reading and preaching of the Word. Our heart for worship is to include as many people as possible in the planning and leading of the services, which is encouraged through our Pastoral Care Groups.

Pastoral Care Groups

All students are assigned to a Pastoral Care Group and have the opportunity to gather weekly with their group. We spend time talking about life and studies, supporting each other in prayer, and, of course, eating together. Each group is a mix of students from all walks of life from both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with a group specifically for online students.

Your Pastoral Care Group leader(s) function as your personal tutor. They are available for 1:1 tutorials at points throughout the year to facilitate reflection on your academic work and future work or studies. It is our hope that you will find these groups a place where you can grow and develop authentic friendships in a safe, supportive environment.

Chaplaincy support

The chaplaincy team is here to walk alongside you on your academic journey. Should you have a prayer request, question/concern, or would like to meet for pastoral care, please do not hesitate to forward your request to the team.

Mental Health Support

We offer pastoral care and support and foster a safe environment where you can share your experiences and learn coping strategies to improve your well-being. Our Chaplains are Mental Health First Aiders.

We will be happy to chat with you and signpost you to professional Counselling services to support you with your mental wellbeing if you feel you need them.
