Course Overview

The MA in Theology is a place to think deeply, and to take that thinking into the world. You choose a pathway, shape your learning with electives, and complete a research dissertation. You can study full time in one year, or part time around work and ministry, on campus in Manchester or online, live alongside your peers. You’ll learn with Christian educators, leaders and thinkers from around the world, whether you’re serving in ministry, developing your career or preparing for further research.

Why NTC?

Study for a degree validated by the University of Manchester and recognised by employers, churches and institutions worldwide. You’ll experience NTC’s own approach to formative theological education, learning alongside people from different traditions and putting faith into practice through worship, study and everyday community life.

Our flexible study system fits around your life. Many MA students study part time and remotely, or take some modules across the semesters and others in intensive weeks on campus. You get real in-person connection without needing to be on campus every week.

We equip you for 21st-century Christian life and ministry, and our graduates thrive across every sphere of life, from community work and ethics to leadership and ministry.

Find your pathway

Our MA in Theology lets you choose from any of the MA modules we offer. If you’d like a more focused route, we also offer pathways. Each has its own core modules to shape your learning, and most leave space for electives. Explore the pathways to find the one that fits your calling, your work and your next step.

About your course

You’ll take one or two units from each discipline, building a well-rounded theological education. The choice is yours. Your dissertation can sit in any discipline we teach at NTC, so you can shape your research around the questions that matter to you.

Learning together
We teach every module in dual-delivery format, so online and on-campus students learn in the same class at the same time. Online sessions are live video conferences, usually held in the afternoon or evening UK time. Subjects will rotate on a yearly basis.
